Tax Talk in the Attorney General’s Race

Tax Talk in the Attorney General’s Race

(Sigal Chattah) – I signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge promising Nevadans that I would oppose any and all efforts to increase taxes months ago.

As of today, my liberal Republican opponent in Tuesday’s GOP primary, Tisha Black, still hasn’t.  And here’s why it’s important to you…

In 2019, Democrats passed a pair of tax hikes without the 2/3 super-majority required by law.  Republicans successfully sued to block the unconstitutional vote.  Guess who fought in court to save those tax hikes?

Democrat Attorney General Aaron Ford.

He didn’t fight for the Nevada taxpayers who overwhelmingly voted – TWICE! – to put that 2/3 requirement in our Constitution.  Instead, he fought to raise your taxes, declaring in court that both were constitutional.

You won’t have to worry about this with me.  Again, I’ve proudly signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge that my opponent has refused to sign.

If she’s elected, she’ll go along to get along.  Just as she always has.

If the Carson City swamp creatures who are funding her campaign want an unconstitutional tax hike, she won’t fight them.  She’ll just roll over hoping to have her tummy rubbed.

Tisha is a moderate, pro-choice Republican now “identifying” as a conservative despite a history of donating thousands upon thousands of dollars to Democrats such as Harry Reid and Steve Sisolak.

If you want a cute lapdog as your Republican attorney general nominee, Tish is your wish.  But if you want a pit bull who will fight for you, I’m your huckleberry.

The primary election is Tuesday.  And I ask for your vote.

FINAL WORDS

Sherman Frederick, co-founder of Battle Born Media, wrote recently about how badly Nevada Democrat Gov. Steve Sisolak and Democrat Attorney General Aaron Ford handled the COVID crisis…

“We know what you did in the summer of 2020, Gov. Steve Sisolak. You shut down Nevada churches in the teeth of the COVID-19, while letting a myriad of other businesses gather.

“The governor and Attorney General Aaron Ford were taken to court and summarily admonished for the blunder. … As the court said, a public health emergency did not give Gov. Sisolak carte blanche to deny the constitutional rights of churchgoers. …

“(T)he thinking was that moviegoers and casino gamblers could gather, but people who attend houses of worship could not.  It was a horrible call. He lost in court.”

And yes, I was one of the attorneys who sued him and Ford…and beat them!

  • “Chattah, who was born in Israel and moved to the U.S. at age 14, has gained popularity among Republican activists for her lawsuits challenging decisions from Gov. Steve Sisolak’s administration regarding the state’s vaccine rollout, occupancy limits in churches amid the pandemic and restrictions to the legislative building during last year’s session.” – Jazmin Orozco Rodriguez, Nevada Independent

  • “In May 2020, Sigal Chattah, who’s running for attorney general as a Republican, sued Gov. Steve Sisolak over his decision to close churches. That lawsuit was successful after the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Sisolak.” – Las Vegas Review-Journal, 12/18/21

  • “Chattah is well-known in Nevada for her prominence as a lawyer in a range of actions against the state’s anti-COVID restrictions. Most notably, in the 9th Circuit, the most liberal federal court of appeals, she helped overturn the state’s ban on gatherings over 50 in houses of worship.” – Times of Israel, 12/19/21

Here’s the First Step to Turning Nevada “Red”

Here’s the First Step to Turning Nevada “Red”

(Sigal Chattah) – Jesse Kelly, conservative host of the nationally syndicated “The Jesse Kelly Show,” wrote on Twitter recently…

“PRO TIP: That primary you’re ignoring is more important than the November election you’re looking forward to.”

He’s right.  Because as the saying goes, it’s not enough to simply elect more Republicans; we need to elect better ones as well.

Remember Brian Sandoval?

In 2009, conservative Republican Gov. Jim Gibbons vetoed a $781 million tax hike.  Big Government Republicans weren’t amused.  So they recruited Sandoval to challenge Gibbons in the 2010 GOP primary.

Sandoval went on to shove the largest tax hike in state history down our throats.

Chapter 21 of conservative strategist Richard Viguerie’s book, “Takeover,” is titled: “It’s the Primaries Stupid!”  In it he wrote…

“Until we conservatives control the Republican Party and nominate conservative candidates who will actually FIGHT for and govern according to the conservative principles the party stands for, there will be no coherent alternative to the Democrats’ Big Government worldview presented to the voters…

“We can go back through election after election and discern a pattern where Big Government progressive Republicans fought conservatives as hard as or harder in the primaries than they fought the Democrats in the general election.”

Well, here they go again.

I’ve made no secret in my campaign for Nevada Attorney General that I’m a constitutional conservative.  And I’ve made no secret that I’m a fighter in the arena, not a fan in the stands.

But that’s not what establishment Republicans in the Carson City “swamp” want.

They want a “Gumby” they can bend and shape and control.

So they went out and recruited Tisha Black – a self-described “moderate” Republican with a history of donating big money to Democrats over the years – including Harry Reid and Steve Sisolak – to run against me in the primary.

If “Tish the Squish” becomes the Republican nominee, she’ll barely put up a fight against Democrat incumbent Attorney General Aaron Ford.  She’ll be the Washington Generals vs. the Harlem Globetrotters.

Here’s why…

  • She didn’t fight against the Sisolak Shutdown
  • She didn’t fight against the Sisolak mask mandates
  • She didn’t fight against the Sisolak vaccine mandates
  • She didn’t fight to reopen our schools, churches and businesses
  • She didn’t fight to open the Legislature to Nevada’s citizens last year
  • She didn’t fight against mail-in voting or ballot harvesting
  • She hasn’t fought for parental rights
  • She hasn’t fought against Critical Race Theory
  • She hasn’t fought against boys competing in girls’ sports
  • She hasn’t fought against soft-on-crime “social justice warriors”
  • She hasn’t fought against illegal immigration
  • She hasn’t fought for gun rights
  • She hasn’t fought against government and Big Tech censorship

Simply put, The Squish is not a fighter – unless it’s fighting against competitors to her family’s marijuana dispensary business!

She goes along to get along – which is exactly what the GOP insiders, deal-makers and power-brokers want.

She doesn’t have titanium for a spine.  She has oatmeal.

Early and mail-in voting continues.  Election Day is next Tuesday.  So the time for choosing is upon us.

Who do you want representing you as Nevada’s “top cop”?  A bold color, as Ronald Reagan once put it, or a pale pastel?

The choice isn’t black or white.  It’s Black or Chattah.

You’ll make that decision in the GOP primary.  And I ask for your vote.

FINAL WORDS

“You need to elect people that aren’t just going to tell you what you want to hear.  Because every single person that runs as a Republican in these primaries, they all say the same thing.  And yet so many of these Republicans, when they get into office, they don’t do anything.” – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

“Primary elections are more important than anything right now. It doesn’t matter if you simply elect a Republican. It’s about what type of Republican. Go out and vote for people who will put America first.” – Greg Price, XStrategies

Who Else Wants a Parents’ Bill of Rights in Nevada?

Who Else Wants a Parents’ Bill of Rights in Nevada?

(Sigal Chattah) – While my opponent in the GOP primary for Attorney General is busy attacking me for unpaid parking tickets back in 2005-06 – no, seriously – let’s talk about something far more important…

Parental rights.

During the Sisolak Shutdown I filed a lawsuit against the Clark County School District and Gov. Sisolak challenging their order forcing kids to wear masks in school.  Democrat Attorney General Aaron Ford represented them for the defense.

The lawsuit is still pending appeal in the 9th Circuit – where I won an earlier lawsuit challenging Sisolak’s shutdown of churches.

PARENTS, not government bureaucrats and apparatchiks, should have the final say when it comes to the health and education of their children.  Democrats don’t agree.

Which is why, if elected, I’ll continue my work on behalf of parents by championing a Parents’ Bill of Rights in the Nevada Legislature next year.

26 states have already introduced such bills to expand parental rights in schools; guaranteeing them access to the curriculum being taught in their kid’s classroom and allowing parents to “opt out” from age-inappropriate classroom materials.

That includes barring instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade – and also affirms that parents, not government officials, are the primary decision-makers when it comes to your child’s health and medical decisions.

These are common-sense measures that a majority of Americans – with or without school-age kids – support and have been fighting for at school board meetings all across the country.

As Kimberly Fletcher, president and founder of Moms for America, put it…

“As I’ve said for the last 16 years, the moment moms find out what’s going on in the classroom behind closed doors, there’s going to be a national revolt, and that’s what’s happening. … Everything that parents would repel is being pushed from kindergarten to 12th grade, and parents don’t like it.  So that’s why they started going to the school board meetings.  And then they got called domestic terrorists. … These are our kids.  We will come to the school board meetings.  We will protect and defend our children.”

Spoken like a true “Mama Bear”!

But the left is throwing a fit over parents standing up for their children and confronting school boards in protest.

Here’s what a substitute public school teacher – who displays the “rainbow” and “transgendered” flags in her Twitter bio – wrote recently…

“We need to quit being afraid of pissed-off parents. This is public service, not customer service. You want a school where you control all the rules? Homeschool or pay someone to homeschool. Your kids are not so special that they get preferential treatment.”

Oh, please.

We’re not asking for “preferential treatment.” We’re demanding that K-3 children not be indoctrinated and “groomed” about sex at such an early age when they should be focused on reading, writing and finger painting.

Public school teachers are government employees paid with tax dollars.  And if parents decide they don’t want certain things taught in the classroom, then teachers need to honor their wishes or go find employment elsewhere.

It’s not your school.  It’s not your classroom.  And they certainly aren’t your kids!

Nevada desperately needs a Parents’ Bill of Rights.  And if you elect me to be your next Attorney General, I’ll fight for one just as hard in office as I’ve already fought for parental rights out of office.

That’s it for now.  I gotta go feed the parking meter!

FINAL WORDS

“A lawsuit filed in Nevada District Court reads like this; as well-intentioned as the mask mandate was, it has become burdensome and unconstitutional. And being forced to wear a mask has caused the young students of Clark County emotional distress.  Attorney, and attorney general candidate, Sigal Chattah wrote the suit.” – News 3 Las Vegas, 11/5/21

Sigal Chattah immigrated to Las Vegas from Israel with her family at the age of 14 and has been practicing law for nearly 20 years in Southern Nevada. Chattah prevailed in Calvary Chapel Lone Mountain v. Sisolak at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals allowing places of worship to reopen just before Christmas. BREAKING: AG Candidate Facing Multi-Million Dollar “Legal Malpractice” Lawsuit

BREAKING: AG Candidate Facing Multi-Million Dollar “Legal Malpractice” Lawsuit

(Sigal Chattah) – In her effort to help re-elect Democrat Attorney General Aaron Ford, my Republican primary opponent, Tisha Black, has launched a series of attacks against my efforts to stop Gov. Steve Sisolak’s mask and vax mandates, referring to them as “shoddy legal work.”

Let me help her out here since she and her dumpster-diving campaign team apparently don’t read newspapers…

On the other hand, Tisha herself is facing a multi-million dollar “legal malpractice” lawsuit – over $3 million and scheduled to be heard later this fall – in which Tisha and her law firm, Black & LoBello, are accused of “negligence.”

She’s being sued by a former client, Dr. James Vahey, over a fraudulent real estate deal involving a scam artist who served “a 51-month sentence in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and tax fraud.”

And the accusations against Tisha are jaw-dropping.

For example, Dr. Vahey alleged that his signature had been forged on certain documents.  However, according to the lawsuit, Tisha “failed to ever retain a handwriting expert,” so “there was no evidence to support” his claim.

Getting an expert witness to support a claim is something even a first-year law student understands.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Here’s a laundry list of additional allegations Dr. Vahey has filed against Tisha and her law firm…

  • Failing to bring all valid claims against the parties who ripped off Dr. Vahey
  • Failing to sue all parties responsible for the damages Dr. Vahey suffered
  • Failing to allege claims on behalf of Dr. Vahey
  • Assigning a multitude of junior attorneys to work on Dr. Vahey’s case, which led to duplication of efforts, unnecessary costs and fees, and pursuit of poor case strategies
  • Alleging meritless claims that caused Dr. Vahey to incur additional unnecessary costs, expenses and fees
  • Attempting to fix her mistakes and other poor legal decisions which caused Dr. Vahey to incur unnecessary costs, expenses and/or fees to save the doctor’s claims from being dismissed by the court
  • Failing to conduct sufficient discovery investigations, which hampered Dr. Vahey’s ability to prove his claims
  • Failing to appeal the court orders and judgments entered against Dr. Vahey

Bottom line…

“Each of the Vahey Parties suffered actual loss or damages as a result of Defendents’ negligence.  Black & LoBello is liable for the acts and omissions of its partner, Tisha Black, who in turn is responsible for the acts and omissions of the associate attorneys who worked on the Vahey Parties’ matters at Black & LoBello.”

Now THAT’S “shoddy legal work”!

Imagine putting someone like this in charge of managing and overseeing the 100+ lawyers working in the Attorney General’s office on behalf of Nevadans.

What could go wrong?

Sigal

P.S.   Not only does Tish the Squish have a history of donating big bucks to Democrats such as Harry Reid and Steve Sisolak, but she’s been out on the campaign trail touting support for and from Democrats and liberal Republicans.

And she just did it again!

On Tuesday she celebrated being endorsed by Nevada State Sen. Joe Hardy, who enjoys the distinction of being the only Republican in office who can boast of voting for BOTH of the largest tax hikes in state history – in 2003 and in 2015.

As veteran conservative strategist and author Richard Viguerie says, “Who you walk with says much about who you are.”

Tisha Black does NOT walk with conservatives.  She’s an incompetent liberal plant in this race.

Birds of a Democrat Feather Flock Together for Tisha Black

Birds of a Democrat Feather Flock Together for Tisha Black

(Sigal Chattah) – Last month I noted a tweet by Tisha Black, my GOP primary opponent for Nevada Attorney General, touting her friendship with scandal-plagued “good friend Michael Mack.”

As I wrote back then, “Mr. Mack is a former Democrat city councilman in Las Vegas who was forced out of office for ethical violations.”  And I quoted veteran GOP strategist Richard Viguerie…

“Who you walk with says much about who you are.”

Well, here we go again.  On Friday Tisha posted an endorsement from Henderson City Councilman Dan Shaw…

Now, if you’re not familiar with Mr. Shaw, he’s had some serious financial problems.  From a Las Vegas Review-Journal story in 2019…

“Henderson Councilman Dan Shaw owed the federal government millions of dollars from a failed business venture.  And he still might.  Tax records show that in 2015, the Internal Revenue Service re-filed liens against Shaw totaling nearly $2.4 million.”

I guess birds of a feather really do flock together since Tisha had tax liens totaling over $2.5 million, as well!

And consistent with Tisha’s donations to Democrat candidates such as Harry Reid and Steve Sisolak, Mr. Shaw has donated generously to Debra March, a Democrat running this year for lieutenant governor…

As well as Democrat State Sen. Roberta Lange, who is a former teachers’ union president, former Nevada Democrat Party chair, former deputy campaign manager for Harry Reid and former finance director for Dina Titus.

This is why I’ve been referring to Tish the Squish as a “Democrat plant.”

She was put into this race at the last minute by a cabal of Carson City power-brokers and lobbyists for the sole purpose of draining my funding in the primary that otherwise would have been used in the general election against Democrat incumbent Aaron Ford.

Who you walk with does indeed say much about who you are.

Sigal

P.S.  In a recent interview with Tish, the show host raised the issue of her history of donating generously to Democrats. And the argument was made that it’s OK to donate to a moderate Democrat in order to defeat a more liberal Democrat in a Democrat primary.

Valid argument…but it doesn’t apply in Tish’s case. She didn’t donate to the “lesser of two evils” in a Democrat primary.  She donated to Democrats in general election races against REPUBLICANS.

That’s a HUGE difference.

FINAL WORDS

Attention Aaron Ford: This Stinks on Ice!

Attention Aaron Ford: This Stinks on Ice!

(Sigal Chattah) – Joe Hart of News 4 in Reno wrote on Thursday about what any normal person would find to be clear signs of government corruption in Nevada involving Attorney General Aaron Ford.

The issue surrounds the recent settlement related to the opioid crisis in which Ford’s former law firm, Eglet Adams, somehow got the contract and pocketed nearly $5.5 million of the money intended to help victims of opioid addiction.

Mr. Hart reports that that’s $2.75 million more than the firm would have received if not for a last-minute amendment to a bill in 2017 – when Ford was the Senate Majority Leader – on the afternoon of the last day of the legislative session.

Mr. Hart reports that the amendment “called for raising the fees paid to law firms the state hires in cases like opioid litigation.”  And according to then-Sen. James Settelmeyer, it was “slipped in” with no public comment or input.

“That amendment was attached to Senate Bill 69,” Mr. Hart reports; a bill that “called for changes in state licensing requirements and had nothing to do with lawyers’ fees.”

In addition, no one could tell Mr. Hart who actually introduced the amendment.  The record only shows the author as “conference committee.”

And even though minutes are required for conference committee meetings, “LCB (Legislative Counsel Bureau) Director Brenda Erdoes refuses to explain why there are no records in this particular case.”

“Attorney General Ford,” Mr. Hart continued, “who called the shots as Majority Leader in the Senate in 2017, tells News 4 he did not introduce the amendment.  But once again, there’s no record.”

Yes, I’m sure it’s just a “coincidence” that there’s no records for a last-minute amendment to an unrelated bill on the afternoon of the last day of the session which resulted in Mr. Ford’s old law firm pocketing $5.5 million.

And I’m sure it’s also a coincidence that, according to the Nevada Secretary of State’s website, that same law firm and various affiliates have donated almost $50,000 to Mr. Ford’s campaigns over the last dozen years.

That’s one hell of a return on investment!

But the big question is why Mr. Ford – whose office already has over 100 lawyers working for it at taxpayer expense – decided to hire an outside law firm in the first place, especially since Nevada was piggybacking on lawsuits already filed by a number of other states.

This was essentially a copy-and-paste operation for which Mr. Ford’s former law firm siphoned off $5.5 million from opioid addiction victims.

This whole thing stinks on ice!

“My job,” Mr. Ford declared in a post-election interview in November 2018, “is to look out for Nevada families first.”

He sure didn’t do that in this instance.  Instead, he looked out for his former employer first.

And after I win the Republican primary for attorney general on June 14, you can bet we’re going to be demanding answers from Mr. Ford.  Nevada taxpayers, families and opioid victims deserve some.

Nevada GOP Endorsement for AG: “The Only True Republican in the Race”

Nevada GOP Endorsement for AG: “The Only True Republican in the Race”

(Sigal Chattah) – The following letter of endorsement was released yesterday by Chairman Michael McDonald and the Nevada Republican Party in the 2022 GOP primary for Attorney General…

Fellow Conservatives,

With three weeks left until the Nevada Primary Election, one of our most important races is Attorney General – Nevada’s Top Cop.

The Attorney General serves as the top law enforcement officer and chief legal counsel of the state.

There is only one candidate endorsed by the Nevada Republican Party and law enforcement agencies throughout the state – Sigal Chattah.

Sigal Chattah has been fighting for Nevadans since day one, suing and winning in court against Governor Sisolak and Attorney General Aaron Ford’s radical policies, lockdowns, and incoherent mandates.

In fact, Sigal challenged Governor Sisolak’s unconstitutional orders, in Calvary Chapel Lone Mountain V Sisolak, and prevailed in the 9th Circuit United States Court of Appeals, forcing Governor Sisolak to reopen places of worship just in time for Christmas.

As mask mandates in Nevada continued, Sigal filed a lawsuit against Governor Sisolak and Attorney General Aaron Ford to unmask our children. But that’s not all…

Sigal also stood with the hard-working men and women of Nevada, suing Sisolak and Ford on behalf of small businesses when Sisolak and Ford shut them down as nonessential.

Most recently, Sigal Chattah led pro bono work on behalf of Repair the Vote PAC to preserve voter integrity throughout Nevada and to get Voter ID on the ballot.

Her only opponent in the race, Tisha Black, sat on the sidelines over the years, donating and supporting Democrats such as Harry Reid, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Governor Sisolak over Republicans.

She has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Democrats over the years. Tisha donated to Governor Sisolak during the height of the Covid-19 lockdowns to keep her recreational marijuana stores open as an essential business when your small business or workplace were shut down.

The last two Republicans who were on the ballot for Nevada Attorney General were Wes Duncan and Adam Laxalt.

In that election, Tisha Black donated and supported Democrat Marcus Conklin over Republican Wes Duncan. In the 2014 Attorney General Race, Tisha Black donated $5,000 to Democrat Ross Miller over Republican Adam Laxalt.

From our point of view, the choice is clear. We must have Republican fighters in our Constitutional offices.

Sigal Chattah is a proven fighter and will always defend the rule of law. Sigal has been endorsed by law enforcement and the Nevada GOP receiving 91.2% of the support, the highest of any candidate.

To learn more visit www.Sigalchattah.com.  If you can chip in today to help Sigal’s campaign, every dollar helps to pay for Get-Out-The-Vote efforts.

We do know times are tough and Bidenflation is hitting everyone.  If you can’t chip in, can you forward this email to two Nevada Republicans so they know to support the only true Republican in the race?

Sigal 4 All!

– Nevada Republican Party

And here’s another endorsement message from Steve Grammas, President of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, “the largest police union in the state,” released yesterday…

“Sigal has been behind us well before she decided to run for AG (attorney general).  As a normal citizen, with no aspirations of politics, she supported every political event we held during 2020 trying to get people like April Becker, Jill Dickman and others elected to state government.  Sigal always had our backs and that is why our Alliance has endorsed Sigal for AG.  Please support your law enforcement officers and vote for Sigal.”

Mail-in ballots are scheduled to drop today.  Early voting begins on Saturday.  Election Day is Tuesday, June 14.  I hope I’ve earned your vote!

Welcome to Tisha Black’s Fantasy Island

Welcome to Tisha Black’s Fantasy Island

(Sigal Chattah)Dana Gentry of the Nevada Current did a write-up last week on my Republican primary race for Attorney General vs. moderate, Establishment-backed Tisha Black.

In her opening paragraph, Ms. Gentry wrote that I want to “imprison women who have abortions.”  That’s simply not true…as even Ms. Gentry acknowledged later in her column…

“Chattah did not respond to questions about whether she would seek to imprison women who abort their pregnancies at an earlier stage.”

Meaning before a heartbeat is detected.

And that question has already been answered by Nevadans themselves, who passed a ballot question in 1990 enshrining abortion rights in state law that can only be changed, constitutionally, by the people themselves, not the Legislature.

That was over 30 years ago.  Technology has changed.  Public opinion has changed.  And if Nevadans want to change the law with a “heartbeat” ballot question similar to what Texas has passed, I’m all for it.

Tisha, on the other hand, who was described as pro-choice in a magazine profile a couple years ago, told the Current that “she would not seek changes to abortion law.”

She also said she “does not oppose background checks” and is not advocating to “make it easier to get a gun” – which should be of great concern to embattled gun rights supporters.

Tish also got tripped up by a question about “cancel” culture when asked why those who call for boycotts and protests against those the left disagrees with aren’t entitled to free speech rights as well.

“Move on,” she snapped.  “I don’t know why you’re trying to get me with that stuff here.”

Yes, understanding constitutional rights can be confusing for some who only think about them when they’re running for office.

And that includes the 6th Amendment right to legal counsel for those accused of a crime – a right personified by founding father John Adams who defended the British soldiers accused in the Boston Massacre.

But my favorite line in the column was this…

“…Tisha Black, a business attorney who denies, despite evidence, that she contributed in 2015 to Steve Sisolak, a Democrat then seeking reelection to the Clark County Commission.”

When asked about all her donations to Democrats over the years during our debate on Nevada Newsmakers, Tish the Squish said…

“That is a straight up lie.  I have never given Steve Sisolak a dime in my life.”

When Ms. Gentry challenged her about that claim and brought the receipt…

“’I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ Black said during a phone interview of the contribution the bears her name, albeit misspelled, as well as her address.”

I guess technically Tish is correct.  She didn’t give Sisolak “a dime.”

She gave him 10,000 dimes!

And her family’s marijuana business – for which she’s a board member and lobbyist – gave Sisolak another $30,000 – including $10,000 in 2020 when Sisolak ran against Republican Adam Laxalt for governor, and another $10,000 to help pay for his inaugural ball in 2021.

THAT’S why I refer to her as a “Democrat plant.”

And I’ll close with this…

In an email to her supporters today, Tish claimed that I’ve spent my legal career “disregarding the law and undermining law enforcement.”

She wishes.

The fact is, I’ve been endorsed by the Police Safety Alliance of Nevada – “an organization representing nearly 100 law enforcement organizations and 10,000 officers throughout Nevada” – as well as the Las Vegas Police Protective Association.

Cops aren’t in the habit of endorsing candidates who don’t “back the blue.”  I back them and they’re backing me.  That’s a fact.

Tish’s claim is a fantasy.  She’s just making stuff up as she goes along because she’s so far in over her head running for this seat.

She’s a moderate, pro-choice “Republican” who’s gone through a “campaign conversion” engineered by her handlers who are now trying to pawn her off as a “conservative” in this primary.

Don’t be fooled.

“Top Cop Tour” Reveals 4 Shocking Failures in Backing the Blue

“Top Cop Tour” Reveals 4 Shocking Failures in Backing the Blue

(Sigal Chattah) – On May 4, 2022, I started an unprecedented endeavor across the State of Nevada to meet members of law enforcement and the criminal justice system known as the Chattah4Nevada Top Cop Tour.

This endeavor is unprecedented due to the fact that no candidate for Nevada Attorney General, regardless of political party, has ever taken such an affirmative step to investigate and discuss the issues falling on Nevada’s law enforcement, criminal justice, and mental health in the history of this office.

As an attorney in the criminal justice system for over two decades, I know that criminal justice has its shortcomings.

I know that there were imperfections that have nothing to do with racial justice, political affiliations or criminal defendants’ rights.

I know that there are systemic problems that have more to do with bureaucracy than civil rights – the extent of which became unfathomable by the end of my tour.

I kicked off this tour on May 4 at the Sheriffs & Chiefs meeting in Fallon, hoping to discuss my issues of priority, which were mental health, cumulative trauma in law enforcement fields and diversionary programs.

I also wanted to assure that all sectors of law enforcement have an understanding that my approach to the Attorney General’s office would be as a reliable ally to law enforcement and counties’ District Attorneys – a cataclysmic shift from what they experience with the current hostility from the Attorney General’s office.

As I traveled 17 Counties in 10 days, I was exposed to realities that I would have never imagined could ever be real in our state.

This holds especially true in the rural communities I traveled through; sometimes two or three counties a day.

I witnessed tragic underfunding, unimaginable incarceration facilities, unintended consequences of violations of separation of powers, and justices of the peace unprotected by Bailiffs.

If I had heard these stories without seeing them, I would’ve never believed in their existence.

For the integrity of confidential communications by many law enforcement officials I came across, neither the names of the counties nor the individuals will be disclosed.

Those from within the system will surely recognize the realities so familiar to them with these numbered shockers.

SHOCKER NO. 1- JUSTICES OF THE PEACE

Many Justices of the Peace have no bailiffs to protect them because of “underfunding” or simply being deemed a lack of priority. This on its own is egregious on a level that is incomprehensible to me.

Justices of the Peace in rural communities are often the ones who sign warrants, hold initial arraignment courts, preside over preliminary hearings and have “in custodies” daily.

How does a county lack funding to provide the one Justice of the Peace, in a rural community, a bailiff?

It is significant to note that in a few rural counties you can expect that many people know where that Justice of the Peace lives and where their children go to school. This takes the term “occupational hazard” to a whole new level.

SHOCKER NO.  2- JAIL FACILITIES

The systemic problem with Nevada’s jail facilities should be a story on its own, but the incarceration facilities of Nevada’s rural communities exemplify the hostility towards law enforcement.

Devoid of any thought of inmates’ rights in our state, our counties forget that the individuals working 8-, 10- and 12-hour shifts in Nevada’s jails are law enforcement, often working in abhorrent conditions of old facilities – including sewer lines that leak above records and surveillance rooms.

The abhorrent conditions, of course, were attributed to “lack of funding”.

I spoke to numerous law enforcement agents that are awaiting mental health services for inmates months on end, rotting in jails, without a psychiatric evaluation, when they know these individuals should not be in jail but in mental health care.

Inmates in ICE detention in our county jails are languishing until someone from the federal government pays attention to them.

This goes beyond forgotten inmates.  This falls into forgotten criminal justice and a blatant disregard for the mental health crisis plaguing our state.

Seemingly, Nevada’s elected representatives care so little about criminal justice, that incarceration facilities are only prioritized after sports venues and complexes, sports teams, speed racing and whatever other useless idea du jour Nevada’s leaders chase.

SHOCKER 3- LAW ENFORCEMENT DOING PRE-TRIAL RISK ASSESSMENTS

In 2016, the establishment of Initial Appearance Courts was announced with a purpose of determining if there was probable cause to arrest and to have an expedited judicial determination of custody status or release conditions by a judge within 48 hours of arrest.

This was sold to everyone as a blissful intersection where the vectors of due process and expedited review would assure a defendant’s’ constitutional rights were secured, allowing for “low risk” individuals to be released based on court personnel providing the Initial Appearance Judge risk assessments for the judge to determine release.

While the larger counties have seen these risk assessments woefully inaccurate – resulting in habitual and repeat offenders being released and reoffending immediately – the rural counties dilemma is magnified by “lack of funding.”

While risk assessments were to be done by the judiciary through the courts, because of “lack of funding” many rural counties police officers are forced to do risk assessments and provide them to the judge, which is a blatant violation of the separation of powers.

Unfortunately, this is an unintended consequence of “lack of funding” or again, prioritizing uselessness over utility and public safety in our state.

SHOCKER NO. 4- NEVADA’S DIRE MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE

When I started the tour, this was my focus. Instead, as I spoke to different sectors of law enforcement, it became almost of secondary importance.

Nevada’s Mental Health crisis is plagued by the fact that Nevada does not have any long-term mental health facilities.

As a practitioner “in the system” I am very familiar with the shortage and almost impossibility to obtain a diagnosis and the insurmountable challenge of doing so in an expedited manner.

Insiders know that 400 beds are available at Lakes Crossing in Northern Nevada for psychiatric assessments in the whole state. That’s it. 400 beds to serve a population of 3 million people.

The saga of Lakes Crossing has been discussed for over a decade and yet nobody seems to care. Not this Administration, not past Administrations – not Democrats or Republicans.  They just don’t care.

These politicians, on both sides of the aisle, talk a good game.  But they could care less about finding solutions to the problem. They all mimic each other and say the same bullsh*t about addressing mental health.

And yet nobody does anything about it.

In the fall of last year, I came up with a private sector solution to a public sector problem – albeit a pricey yet very plausible solution. I proposed to convert and refurbish two closed jails in Nevada to two long-term mental health facilities subsidized by the state.

The more I discussed it with members of law enforcement, the more support I got from them.

An idea was born – and the need for a project like this was immediately accepted and supported throughout the state by all sectors of criminal justice I spoke to.

THE TAKEAWAY

There were a few common themes that I crossed throughout counties, including low officer morale, officer shortage, lack of incentives to work in rural communities and lack of recruitment resources.

Closure of police academies leaves an abysmal pool of candidates. Salaries as low as under $13.00 per hour in rural counties does not incentivize anyone to be in law enforcement.

As I left every county and every meeting, I left with one promise to all: I would do all I could to ensure funding to make law enforcement recruitment and hiring a priority.

I promised to stand by our counties and their law enforcement to assure that their jails no longer look like an Abu Ghraib prison.

I promised to stand by justices and ensure that their safety isn’t compromised for doing their jobs.

In short, I promised them a major overhaul in criminal justice reform – the good overhaul, where public safety is assured and law enforcement is protected.

The most important thing I learned, though, was that the real top cops are our law enforcement officers – not the Attorney General.

If This Doesn’t Make Your Blood Boil, I Don’t Know What Will…

(Sigal Chattah) – Democrats across the country have been waging a scorched-earth war on parents with kids in public schools ever since Joe Biden entered the White House.

His Department of “Justice” has even labeled parents who object to school policies and curriculum as “domestic terrorists.”

But parents aren’t taking it lying down.

In fact, a “Mama Bear” movement of mothers fighting to protect their “cubs” has spread nationwide.  They’ve become even MORE active and vocal in fighting back – including some who are running for (and winning!) school board seats themselves.

And Nevada is no exception.  Get this report from the Power2Parent Union (P2P)…

“April 2022, a CCSD (Clark County School District) high school student was assigned a monologue by her teacher that contained pornographic material.  The initial assignment was student-generated, but the teacher reviewed and edited it before handing it out to the student.”

Now, before sharing with you exactly what the monologue was that the student was assigned to memorize and recite, BE WARNED, it is of a sexually explicit nature.  Here goes (bad grammar in the original) …

“I don’t love you.  It’s not you it’s just (looks down) I don’t like your dick or any dick in that case.  I cheated Joe.  We were long-distance and I’m in college and me and this girl my roommate started having some drinks and you know.

“I thought it was a one-time thing but then we started going out to coffee, and started sleeping in the same bed, I never thought it would get this far but God it was like fireworks, and it made me realize with you it was always like a pencil sharpener that keeps getting jammed.

“I’ve tried to look at it from all different perspectives but the truth is I’m a fucking lesbian.  I’ll never love you, or any man, or any fucking dick.  I hope you find a nice straight girl because that’s not me, and I’m tired of pretending it is.”

Wow.

But believe it or not, it gets worse…

The “Mama Bear” of the student who received this assignment attempted to raise the issue at the May 12th school board meeting.  P2P reports that the mom “was ridiculed and called a liar during her testimony” when she tried to read the assignment to board members.

Worse, P2P reports that Trustee Evelyn Morales then cut off her mic in mid-presentation and “chided the mom for using profanity in a public meeting.”

To which the mom replied…

“Why should my daughter be made to memorize and act out this pornographic monologue in front of peers, but I cannot share it in a public meeting?”

Exactly!

As Erin Phillips, President of Power2Parent, put it…

“Parents have the right to advocate for their children without fear of repercussions.  Activist teachers who are blinded by their own ideology and have lost the ability to judge what is appropriate for children have no business being in the classroom with minors.”

And I would include this teacher who took to the mic after the Mama Bear was shut down and actually said the following…

“I think we need to look at who is coming and speaking against teachers at these
meetings who think because they have kids that they’re an educational expert.”

Unbelievable.

These people think just because they’ve been hired to work in a classroom that they should be above scrutiny and criticism for what they decide to teach our kids without our knowledge, let alone approval.

And it sure as hell doesn’t take an “educational expert” to know the assignment in question is wholly inappropriate to be taught in a public school classroom.  All it takes is an ounce of common sense.

This is exactly the same attitude I faced from CCSD and Gov. Sisolak when Joey Gilbert and I sued the school district last year over their mask mandate for students.

Their position was this: Parents have no rights in schools once they drop their kids off.

Unlike my GOP primary opponent, I’m fighting this in court.  And I will continue fighting this anti-parent mindset as your next Attorney General.

Before closing, I want to applaud the Clark County “Mama Bear” who summoned up the courage to make this classroom assignment public and suffered the slings and arrows for daring to challenge it at that school board meeting.

And thank you Erin Phillips of Power2Parent for bringing this story to the public’s attention and lending this concerned mother support.  Hopefully, some heads will roll.

THE LAST WORD
